This is a precise REPLICA of a 1940's department store display bust that was molded directly from a vintage model. The original of this model was used for jewelry display and made of a rubber called Vulcanite. She is smaller than life-size and could NOT be used for hats (the relative size is shown in the last photo).

The early jewelry display models were often smaller to make the displayed jewelry appear more noticeable and even somewhat overwhelming. This model would make the jewelry look super in a storefront window from the period where this street advertising was so important and window space was limited. The store operators were attempting to "trick" us into buying even in this earlier era. The ears have lobes open in the back that allow hook earrings to be used. The height is approximately 14" and the width is 5 1/2" at her chest. Apparel shown is for display only and is not included in the sale.

This model was cast in US Gypsum #1 casting plaster (much stronger and more chip-resistant than normal plaster). I prefer plaster because it is historically correct, is timeless, and stable for many generations to come.

Our models closely resemble the originals in weight and feel and carry the original and charming mold marks that are characteristic of handcrafted work. These marks should not be considered defects and only add character to the artwork. Our models are made to look, feel, smell and taste very similar to what the vintage model would when new (no better, no worse). These replicas are in no way ever meant to deceive and the undersides of the bases are hand-scribed with the year, our signature, and are numbered in the order that they are made.
